Continuous casting is the process whereby molten metal is solidified into a semi-finished billet, bloom, or slab for subsequent rolling in the finishing mills. Continuous casting has evolved to achieve improved yield, quality and productivity and cost efficiency. It allows lower-cost production of metal sections with better quality, due to the inherently lower costs of continuous, standardised production of a product, as well as providing increased control over the process through automation. In order to automate the speed at which the metal is travelling needs to be determined and then used for cut to length applications. The Moduloc MDL1000 velocity meter has an exceptional ability to perform this task.
